History

The church which meets at 1208 W. 41st street started around 1949. The building was bought from a Presbyterian group. They converted an old school house built in 1890 to a church building.

The steeple, wings, and classrooms were added making it the building you see today. The christians that moved into the building came from a church on the north side of the James River. In those days it was thought expedient to have a church meet on both sides of the river.

Over the years other churches have come from this one. The West End church of Christ, the Powhatan church of Christ, Nottaway church of Christ, and DoubleCreek church of Christ have their roots from this church. Presently we aid in  the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ in South Africa, the Philippines, West Virginia, and California. We have had a great past and hope you will join us for a great future.
